Momigami Workshop: The Japanese Art of Kneaded Paper

Learn the ancient Japanese craft of kneading paper known as Momigami, as you dive into both the traditional, and the contemporary method, to produce tantalizing texture and interesting surface designs with paper.
Each very distinct from the other, I'll walk you through the ins and outs of both methods and inspire you with unique applications for each one.
From traditional long grain mulberry papers, magazine pages and junk mail catalogs, to salvaged paper bags, and vintage ephemera, this course will inspire you to create kneaded papers with textured, tactile, interesting surfaces for use in your own collage and mixed media designs.
Techniques Covered:
• Gathering/reviewing traditional and nontraditional papers.
• Demos for unique surface design options from my own creative experimentation over the past 4 years.
• Prepping papers with mark-making, staining, and painting prior to kneading.
• Instruction on both the traditional and contemporary methods of the ancient Japanese craft of kneading papers known as Momigami.
• Set up and preparing the traditional paste used for Momigami.
• Hand-kneading traditional long grain papers to infuse strength and character.
• Hand-kneading non-traditional papers to create unique surface design and textures.
• The Contemporary method of creating kneaded paper using a variety of papers.
This workshop includes:
• Live 2.5 hours of interactive instruction on Zoom
• Access to the recordings for six months after workshop ends.
• Ability to download recordings if you wish to keep them.
